Book Reviewer Guidelines

Become a book reviewer for The Urban Book Source and join the ranks of the most comprehensive online publication of urban literature.

We ask that reviewers are available to review at least one book per month; books are sent according to a reviewer's expressed subject interests. Reviewers are asked not to review for other publications the same books they review for The Urban Book Source and not to send copies of their reviews to publishers or authors.

The industry expects an Urban Book Source review to be based on thorough, fair, and careful reading. Therefore we ask that all reviews be based on a critical appraisal of both content and execution.

More Details:

• Book reviews should be at least 400 - 500 words.
• While it is our policy to edit as little as possible when need be, reviews may be reorganized or condensed when necessary and minor changes are made, but the reviewers stated opinion will always be preserved.
• Reviewers keep all books sent to them.
• There is no payment for reviews.

Our Review Rating System:
The expectation is that all material submitted by authors and publishers will be of the highest quality. Below is our book review rating system, we measure ratings on a “0-5” point scale.

There are several outlets who review books and frequently give 4’s and 5’s on a “5 point” rating scale and others that do not publish reviews with anything below the 3 point mark. The Urban Book Source will provide thorough and honest reviews regardless of relationships, status or popularity. Each book will be dissected from an editorial perspective and anything between a 0 and 5 will be utilized based on the merits of the book. This is the only way to effectively make change and raise the bar for books written today. All book reviews will include what the reviewer liked, disliked and how the book could possibly be improved. There will be no bias or favoritism shown to any author or publisher. If there are concerns, please contact us as we welcome feedback.
