You, Me and He

In You, Me and He author Brooke Green delves into the strains of maintaining a healthy relationship. All relationships require hard work but how much harder is it when one of its members is bi-sexual? Keith Reed in no way considers himself to be bi-sexual however his old college roommate Jarrod would say otherwise. Especially since Jarrod’s attempt at turning Keith out was almost successful. Now it’s two years later and after a chance encounter Jarrod refuses to let Keith slip through his grasp again.

Jarrod has no regards for his own pregnant wife, Jackie or Keith’s fiancée Donna as he goes all out in his pursuit of Keith. Donna caught Keith and Jarrod in a compromising position years ago and she is the reason why he and Jarrod hasn’t seen or spoken to each other since. It took a long time for Keith to win back Donna’s trust after the Jarrod incident and he values the fact that she’s still willing to build a life with him while knowing about his past indiscretions. Keith just wants the past to be the past and move forward to the future he’s building with Donna.

Donna thought she would never be in her current situation, engaged to a “down-low” brother. But convinced by both Keith’s charm and wallet Donna decides to try and work things out. Their relationship is going well until Jarrod reappears; causing Donna to question whether Keith can keep his promise to remain faithful. But Jarrod isn’t taking no for an answer and if Keith keeps playing hard to get he’s going to have no choice but to oust him from his closet.

You, Me and He was a captivating read. The story was told in the voices of all the main characters Keith, Donna, Jarrod and Jackie. Also sub-plots centering on Donna’s beautician Sabrina and Keith’s father Mr. Reed help to keep the story flowing nicely. Brooke Green does an excellent job keeping reader’s interests while pondering can Donna’s relationship withstand the added stress of another man after her man?

What did you like about the book?
The premise, at first I thought there was no way a woman would knowingly stay with a down-low brother. But Ms. Green managed to make the characters and their actions not only believable but readers will find themselves sympathetic to their plights.

What did you dislike about the book?
The main female protagonist Donna was somewhat unlikable. Donna came off as manipulative and at times it seemed the she took pleasure in reminding Keith of a past that she so desperately wanted him to forget.

What could the author do to improve the book?
Nothing, Ms. Green took a very taboo subject matter and turned it into an engrossing tale.
