Rebound: Situations In My Life is an inspirational novel that chronicles author Chyvonne Thomas’ transformation into adulthood. Rebound is based on actual events in the author’s life and has an autobiographical tone that functions well as a motivator to encourage readers to overcome life’s trials.  Rebound also could work well as a self-help book geared towards females coming of age. Starting with her high school graduation we find a young lady content with just finishing high school and very reluctant to attend college. It takes an actual fist fight with her brother to remove the complacency and send off the college application instead of just applying for a position at the local Stop and Shop.

Rebound is filled with almost a dozen or more of these real life situations where Ms. Thomas actions or sometimes inactions placed her in situations that she had to rebound from. But Rebound is exactly what she did no matter how dire the circumstance. Her love life as that of many young girls put her in a couple of dire situations from infidelity, homelessness and dating a married man. Although conquering situations of the heart may be the hardest lesson to learn Ms. Thomas showcases that even that is possible if you stay positive and set goals for yourself.

What did you like best about the book?
I really enjoyed the lessons that were at the end of each chapter. They really highlighted each situation that occurred and what was needed to overcome it.

What did you dislike about the book?
Some situations were resolved with very little detail leaving the reader with a sense of vagueness as to what occurred.

How can the author improve this book?
A little more detail could have been offered as to the ending of the relationships with Ja and Jamar. The female readers that Ms. Thomas is aiming to provide inspiration for would benefit from knowing how to effectively end an unhealthy relationship.
